I am worming my chooks (few more days of treatment left). One of them, & I just cannot work out which one despite hanging around & waiting for them to perform   has very runny poo's. I'm sure it is only one, & I've looked at the list Victoria's poultry posted (v.helpful! thanks) & worms is one of the possible causes.

If this is the cause, does anyone know how long after treatment it will clear up? If this doesn't do the trick I'll look at another cause, e.g. coccidosis (sp!) I've read on another post that this can be diagnosed through a lab test so would go down this route.

Thanks everyone.

If the chook looks healthy, I would wait a few weeks - it can be many different things, even eating too much cabbage or similar :o

Cocci usually gives blood in the faeces. It could be worms but as you say, should clear up a little while after treatment.

Did you know that old timers say the best time to worm chickens is when there's a full moon? Apparently this is when worms are most active... Then again is sounds like a leg pull to me! There has been a full moon this week. ;)

Ditto what Tim said. If your birds are looking healthy, eating, drinking and active I'd not worry overly. Sometimes something eaten can cause the dropping to be runny or a different colour. It often rights itself after a few days. I'd hold of treating it for anything else right now as it doesn't sound like its actually ill. Cocci would be far more obvious and would by now probably be affecting more of your flock.

Stick to a bland diet and avoid giving anything fancy or different for a few days. Stick with tried and tested foods. Also things like a moult, coming into lay, even these things can sometimes upset the system.

I do give them cabbages hung up in the run so Tim, it certainly could be that & Snifter one of them has just come out of moult & starting to lay again so maybe its her.

Thanks both of you, I won't worry unduly yet then as they're all looking well, laying, eating & drinking etc.
