Hi everybody,my name is Sue Sablepoot and yes,I'm a white sablepoot bantam. This is a short story about me and two of my hatchlings(sister's to you humans ;) ) which I do hope you will enjoy!!!!Well,we hatched earlier this year, and our home was lovely which is be-fitting for us.Our non-feathered mum is lovely, and so were our gardens and hen house. Our non-feathered mum is also called Sue(Victoria's Poultry) and I'm proud to say i'm named after her :D .
Well,on thurs this week,Sue came and called me,and my two best friends and carried us into a large shed were she put us in a pen.Apparently,we were going to live with another non-feathered mum, this was exciting and a little scary, wondering what our new 'non-feathered mum' would be like!!!
Well, after what felt like hours(it was-our new 'non-feathered mum' had got lost  we heard them chatting and they came in.
We are an inquisitive, friendly breed, and we were eager to meet our new 'non-featered mum' judging by the pleased expression on her face, and her comments we didn't disapoint  ,we could tell straight away that she would be kind, and,an easy 'non-feather' to twist around your wing  .
Sue explained how she tells us apart,as at a quick glance we are very identical,I say very as we're not quite identical.
The 'non-feather's' wandered off, what was going on? we thought she had come for us :? .We'd chatted and said 'hello' (a note to all other chickens here-the 'non-feathers' do like us to chat back)so we were a bit puzzled, but settled back down to feeding and drinking.
Later, they came back and popped us into a box.We then went into our 'non-feather's house'.We do feel for 'non-feathers.They don't have proper perches to rest on,but, they aren't really designed for proper perching. It is fun though,to explore and pop a beak into their different things, sit and have a chat, and generally be fussed.Well,we came out the box,and sat on 'non-feathered' Sue and said our good-byes.It is a bit scary to leave your home, and the care of our 'non-feathered ' mum.I honestly think there are not many 'non-feathered' mum's who could have cared for us so well.As we were leaving, the 'non-feather's' discussed our names.I was named after my 'non-featherd' mum,so I'm also Sue.I am pleased to be named after her,my two best friends are called Jenny (after non-feathered Sue's mum) and Henny Penny.
My feet are aching now after all this typing, let me know if you're enjoying my tale, and,I'll type some more tomorrow.

Sue Sablepoot

Hi Lydia (aka Sue Sablepoot)
Lovely to have met you, do you know you are bonkers? Glad the girls have settled in and thankyou so much for your email with pics!!
Regards Sue (aka Sue sablepoots old mum)!

Firstly,my new mum is completely bonkers, but hopefully in a nice way :D ,and thanks girlracer, all the encouragement I need  .

Travelling in a car is a bit strange, our new 'non-feathered' mum was playing something she called music....i'm not one to critiscise, the music would have been fine, only she sang along to it :o .She should definitely not give up her day job!!!!!
Eventually,we dozed off,it had been a strange day with new experiences, and music does help one to sleep (we'd have fallen asleep sooner with out the 'non feather's' singing) so a stress free journey.
We woke slightly when we felt our box being carried again, only for a minute and then it was opened in our new home.Nothing you can imagine can prepare you for that!!!!
The first thing we noticed was the strong smell of some carnivore, dogs. The only dog we have ever smelt before was a neighbours who screamed for our blood.we sat in the box and wondered what to do.Our new 'non-feathered' mum spoke to us,she sounded calm, patient and friendly, not like someone about to do something nasty. Then I realised the dogs weren't screaming for our blood, and also hadn't come any closer. So I popped my head out for a quick peek, ready to duck back into the box if necesary ;) .The dogs, and there were lots,a big flock, where all shut away-best place for them :D .So I popped out and told Jenny and Henny Penny it was safe to move.
Our new 'non-feathered' mum picked Jenny and Henny Penny out,and put us all on the floor by the box, which she turned on it's side,so we could go back into it easily. It had been something strange earlier, but now with the smell of us inside it,it was re-assuring.'non-feather' bustled off and came back with some water and food.Pellets and corn in a shallow metal dish, and a slightly deeper dish with fresh water. It was late, but it is rude to not try a bit of food when someone has got it for you,so we tucked in :D .I wasn't thirsty, but Jenny and Henny Penny were and both had quite a long drink.Great, sleeping with them tonight was going to be fun!!!!
It was late,so as soon as I'd finished eating,I went to the back door.I knew there would be our new home outside. Also,I could smell other chickens ;) .Our new 'non-feathered was really impressed, bless,I think she's a bit simple, but if moving away from her stinky dogs towards other hens impresses her, she's easily pleased.
When one of us lays an egg, she's going to go into orbit  .
'Non-feathered' mum then picked me up and carried me outside,a rush of smells invaded my nostrils, damp earth, something furry called rabbits, trees, wet grass, chickens and hay. Then I was being placed carefully on a perch.Within minutes,Jenny and Henny Penny joined me.Then our travelling box,on it's side, but 'non-feathered' mum placed it in our house, incase we wished to sleep in it.
Maybe this new home will be ok,'non-feathers' is obviously trying to help us settle in,and,it is exciting.
We said 'good night' to each other and fell asleep straight away, all snuggled up on the same perch.

hi girlracer, really pleased you're enjoying it :D ,although I will let you into a little secret,I do have help,I keep pecking the wrong letters,so,I sit on my 'non-feathered' mum's shoulder, tell her what I want her to type, and she types it up for me.
Day one.
We woke up early, which gave us a chance to explore our new house,it's basically square, with an added extension(nestbox),and has 2 perches.Their are 2 doors, one is bigger and has 4 little windows in it.We do enjoy sitting on a perch and looking out of our windows. The other door is smaller, and is a sliding door, with a ramp leading down into an enclosed run.
Well,we did wake up before our 'non-feather' mum.it wasn't long and she appeared to let us out,we could hear the other hens chatting as well.We came down the the ramp and onto the ground. This was a bit of a shock :o ,it wasn't grass,or earth or mud.It was wood chopped up into chunks, mostly bark.It made us walk funny, which made 'non feather' mum smile and call us 'gestapo chickens'.I'm not sure what gestapo chickens are, but,'non feathers' obviously loves them as much as she loves us ;) .
We went straight to our water,it was flavoured with garlic, apple and something called life guard.Supposed to make us happy, but we are happy,so not sure we need it!!!
We then had our breakfast, there were two containers, one with layers pellets, and one with very small seeds, found out they are called finch seeds.Someone called Snifter told our 'non feathers'that her bantams enjoy a little bit of finch seed,so a big thanks to Snifter, you're a star.We also got a big green leaf, wasn't sure what to do with that,so we left it.
Whilst we were eating, the other hens came over,to see us we thought, but no,to see what we were eating. There is a cute pekin bantam if you like your cockerels small and chunky ;) .He strutted his stuff, but we were too busy to pay him much attention,so he gave up and wandered off :D .
Then the dogs came out!!!We were VERY scared,so ran and flew up our ramp even quicker than we'd come down it.
'Non feather' called the dogs away, and told them off for scaring us,she then told us to ignore the dogs, easy for her,not easy for us when all our senses are telling us to escape!!!She talked to us a bit more, and we came back down the ramp. One of the dogs, approached our run,but a lot slower. He whined, and said hello, not to be afraid,he actually looked quite dopey. So we went back to our breakfast.
At lunch time we had layers mash/crumb,mixed with warm water,we scoffed that as well. When we'd finished,we all got a cuddle from 'non feather'.
She's ok actually,a bit thick, but, she's got a kind heart and obviously adores us.She's patient with us,and,we're patient with her. She's trying hard to understand us,and it's not her fault she can't talk chicken.
Then,we had some super mixed corn, which we also ate with relish.
It wasn't very long and it started to get dark,so we went to bed.Non feathers came out,and talked to us whilst she removed all the food/water containers and the big green leaf.We really enjoy 'non feather' company. We can cope with each other, and enjoy our own company, but,it is nice to sit on shoulders and a head, and chat with someone who listens and replies.

Tim said:
:? I don't know what to say.... :?
Well Tim,I'll take that as a compliment then  lol.

Day Two.
Well,as to jealopusy girlracer, they want to come into our inclosed run to see what we're eating, and,er,we want to get out because we can see them wandering in and out of the lounge and doing what looks like fun things. So we're all a bit jealous of each other......... :? .

Once again we were awake before our 'non-feather' mum,but not long and she appeared with our food and water.once again, layers pellets and finch food, after a quick peck to eat,we had a drink and then 'n-f' mum also brought us into the lounge.Great,we could explore!!! .
First,we checked out the sofa, and Jenny and Henny Penny opted to stay perched on the sofa.Well,I'm a rascal so I flew onto the top of some clean folded laundery, from there I flew onto the top of an airer where damp laundery was drying.I had a good view of everything from here,so then flew to the t.v. and explored behind it.Then, because I thought it would be fun,I flew to where the other chooks were settled by the door and landed amongst them, which went down like a lead balloon  .The other chooks ducked and scattered, then rounded on me telling me off  which was really funny.
I then went upstairs and explored, that was good fun.I scared 2 dogs who were hiding there,I enjoyed that very much :D .

everything is going really well here.we are very happy, every morning we get our breakfast, then an hour later we have our finch seed.We have corn at lunch time, and, then just before bed we have some warm mash :D .
We spend our mornings in a covered run on our 'non feathered' mum's front lawn.Where,we are admired by lots of people and children,so,we are ambassadors for our breed  .
Apparently,a lot of information either on-line,or in books recomends pekin bantams as an easy breed to care for, and, easy to tame.According to our mum,we are far better. We are more refined and lady like, very curious about people and enjoy human company,so we are the perfect pets ;) .
A few days ago,'non-feathered' mum decided to wash our feet and legs. She likes us to look pretty(actually,it was to check us for scaly leg mites)which,we don't have.Anyway, she dipped us (thank goodness legs only) in a few inches of soapy water. She then carefully washed our legs with a small gentle brush. It was actually quite pleasant.Well, when she finished,I just couldn't resist running outside and splashing in the muddy puddles  ,soon messed myself up :D .
Jenny and Henny Penny were horrified, they wouldn't dream of doing that, but me,I'm a bit of a  .
Also,I've got a new game. When 'non-feathers' mum is taking us to our new outside run,she has to walk through her house.Well,Jenny and Henny Penny are really goody goody, they sit,on her shoulders like a pair of book ends, until she lifts them down into the run. So,she tried this method with me ;) ,I sat on her shoulder as good as can be,until she was out the front. Then,I flew onto her car,she sighed and came after me,so,as quick as a flash i flew onto the run, then went under the car.'Non feathers' was on her knees, talking to me under her car,was very funny, her big rump stuck up in the air :D .
I couldn't help laughing at her  ,she was talking to me,and,it was a bit boring under the car so I came out and allowed her to put me into the run.
Now though, she carries me through, holding my wings by my side.

Hi girlracer,I'm not naughty, just slightly mishevious :D .Although my other 'non feathered' mum,Sue(Victoria's Poultry) did tell my new 'n-f' mum that I'm a little rascal, but after my new 'n-f' mum had bought me to my new home :D .Reckon she thought new 'n-f' mum wouldn't drive all the way back to return me  .
That aside, new 'n-f' mum wouldn't dream of parting with me,or Jenny and Henny Penny, she adores us and is rapidly becoming a Sablepoot slave :D .
I do lay an egg occasionaly, usually one a week as compensation :P .Although I will be stopping soon for a rest.
Today was quite an eye-opener,we had our very own real life blue movie to watch, before 'n-f' had put us into our day run,Bertie Bantam was having sex with all the hens(apart from us obviously),outside our house, inside her house, wherever.
it was actually very funny,Bertie Bantam is small,so he'd struggle to get on the hens, hang onto their neck feathers for dear life, then, just as he was about to do the deed, they'd walk off and he'd fall off  .
then mum took us through to our day run, where there was even more excitement.
there was a large plastic container on the path by our lawn.We could smell metal, glass and human food odours.
Then,a lorry (big scary thing with wheels and very noisy)came along, men with terrible plumage(so bad they tried to hide it with bright yellow feathers) leapt down and attacked the plastic containers. The plastic containers where taken to the lorry, which really growled at them, before they were put back.
We did try to act nonchantly, but it was scary.
I'm off now, another day tomorrow, with more things to see and do.

So glad my girls are living up to their namesakes!!!! Lydia (non feathered mum) I did warn you that sabelpoots are little rascals, very talkative and mischevious!!! Think they are the best breed anyone can have!!! :D :D

hi Sue,yes you did, afterwards lol,I think your words whilst I was at yours was they are full of character. They certainly are, absolutely adorable.
Last week-end at the national,I did see all the hens, ducks and geese on display, but, the only ones that came up to talk and try to get a fuss were the Sablepoots. As soon as I stopped in front of their wire cages they walked straight up to me,chatting away and enjoying the company. No other's did this, and,it was all of them.

Hi everybody, well, isn't the weather horrid at the moment. We have rain everyday :( ,there is mud everywhere as well.We haven't been out on the front lawn for a few days, mum doesn't want the grass to get really muddy.
I keep telling her that because of our feathered legs and feet we wont make it muddy, but, bless her,she doesn't understand.
Instead,we are getting cabbage every day hung up in our run, which we quickly shred and eat.Hopefully, when we start laying again our eggs will taste all cabbagey for her....and garlicy as we have that in our water too  .
Last week there was a hard frost,so our 'n-f' mum put plenty oh hay in our nest boxes, yes,we sleep in our nestbox, all 3 of us cuddled up.It is very snug now :D .
We still go in 'n-f' mum's lounge, have a perch on the sofa,She has a big box full of sand on the floor,so we go and have a dustbath when we want. She also puts food/water down for us.
We also watch the t.v.,that is good,we enjoy that.
I explore all the house,I've checked out the bathroom,'n-f' mum's bedroom,I like to perch on her bedstead, the kitchen and the hall.Jenny and Henny Penny never do this,I also squeeze through the bannister's onto the stairs,'n-f' mum often puts treats on the stairs for me :D .
Well,I'm off now,got things to do(keep an eye on H.P. and Jenny)they need me to look after them :D .

Hi everybody,I thought I'd tell you about our strange but lovely day.It all started last friday, mum let us out early and was very cheerfull.
As soon as we came out of our house we were greeted with a bowl of warm layers mash and redy-brek(she mixes half mash half r.b.)
While we were busy eating, the other chooks(who sleep in a huge hen house)all piled into 'n-f' lounge, and were also tucking into warm mash & redy-brek.
Then, mum came to get us,the lounge had weird bright lights in it,we all took turns to go and peck them,so mum turned them off.Said she didn't want us fried for Xmas dinner :o .
Mum sat on the sofa,so,we took it in turns to walk accross her lap,we settled down, getting up occasionaly for a drink or peck to eat.
About midday, mum bought some bowls in full of mealworms, she made sure we all got some, she puts our bowl on the stairs,so we get the most,we slip through the bannisters and sit on the stair to eat them. The other bigger chooks still haven't twigged this out yet....bless,they are a bit um thick :? .
Then, only a couple of hours later we had our corn, well, the big thick ones have just corn,we have corn and finch seed, which we love.
then,we all settled down to watch t.v.,this 'n-f' doesn't buy a t.v. guide,so she was channel flicking and decided we'd give Happy Feet a try...........well,what a load of cobblers.
The only one who watched it and enjoyed it was Rusty, the dumb staffy. He sat with his eyes glued to the t.v.,and whimpered when 'n-f' tried to turn over-so we all had to put up with it.
Actually,'n-f' and us chooks all slept through it.
About 4.30pm,'n-f' took us back outside to our little house,it quickly warmed up and we snuggled down.
Bertie bantam had a tantrum at having to go back outside  .
