Rosie has finally gone to the dust bath in the sky. She held on for a long time - way past when any normal poorly girl should have given up - but we finally had her put to sleep at our vets this afternoon.
We are shattered that she has left us, and the garden feels too big and empty without her charging around in it. It even makes me sad to know that I can leave the back door open now...
We tried everything, but for the last 2 days, she's hardly been able to move due to water belly, has hardly eaten and drank anything (even in this heat!) and mostly slept. Typically, almost immediately after I made the dreaded appointment at the vets, she perked up a little and had some sweetcorn and cat milk... but we knew it was only a temporary reprive, so we went ahead.
I'm sad, relieved, sad that I'm relieved, and exhausted - but I'm grateful for the years that she spent with us, and will always love my funny little dinosaur. </3
We have 10 days until our new fluffy butts arrive, so 10 days of Pepper being on her own. She's quiet, and searching for Rosie already - does anyone have any suggestions on how to help her? She's never been on her own before...
Thank you for all the kind words. It means a lot. xxx
