Purple antiseptic spray and nitrile gloves, so that I don't end up purple too 😁

    Funny Flock Stories

Sorry Farrah, but your brother terrorising your chickens is not remotely funny. Chickens are very sensitive to stress & this kind of behaviour is likely at best to stop them ftom laying & at worst to make them vulnerable to serious illness. I'd suggest brother- proofing your coop and run.

    How many chickens?

We always allow a minimum of 2 square metres of space in the run per chicken. No idea what that is in square feet- the UK had gone metric even I started school...

If you have cookies saved on your device, Google et al will show you what you usually look at. I clear my cookies daily. So the difficulty that I had trying to find the forum will mirror that experienced by potential new readers. I tried terms such as "poultry keeper forum", "poultry love of"...

    Concerned about my cockerel

I wouldn't be surprised if he's showing the effects of stress. But Chris is definitely the expert here.

    Where is everyone??

A question for Josh... The other day I tried to get onto the forum from my laptop, which doesn't autofill the web address when I type in the first few letters... The closest that I could get, using both Google & Firefox, was Tim's Poultrykeeperforum.com website. Try as I may, I couldn't get the...

    Where is everyone??

What a tolerant flock 😄. My girls had a flap this morning when all I was doing was shaking out the last few layers' pellets from the paper sack onto the floor of the run before it went into the recycling bin. It goes to show how well you made your coops ready for your move to France, that...

    Optimal diet?

I noticed on yesterday's delivery of Smallholder layers pellets that the bags now have a new royal coat of arms on them, "By royal appointment to the king". He feeds his his hens with Smallholder organic layers' pellets. My girls have to make do with the next best thing. At least they're still...

    Optimal diet?

Sunflower seeds are also very handy when you go into the run in the morning and two of them make a break for the compost heap!!! 😄

    Optimal diet?

If you're in the UK I recommend Smallholder layers' pellets, fresh water and a maximum of one small handful of sunflower seeds most days as a treat.

    Where is everyone??

Where are you all? Tigger would like everyone to know that today she laid the most beautiful pale blue egg the world has ever seen (in her opinion at least)!!! Mind you, she said the same thing yesterday and the day before... 😉

    Red mite prevention

I inherited some "real" creosote when we moved here, but couldn't buy any more when it ran out. But the Total Mite Kill works really well & smells much better too!!

    Red mite prevention

Hi Touchstone. No, I've never heard of it, sorry. I've had excellent results from "Total Mite Kill" from Nettex https://www.nettexpoultry.com/products/mite-and-pest-control/total-mite-kill-ready-to-use-spray/ . I was sold my first (wooden tongue & groove) coop, 2nd hand, by a local poultry...
