hi there, i have 20 or so chickens i have bred in one barn all 16 weeks old. i have taken out most which i think are cocks and only left in ones i may want to breed from. one white leghorn is a real dude, already crowing and starting to tread . one of the white orpingtons which i think may be a cock he tread today. will this definitely be a pullet or is he too young to know the difference ?

Hello, it is probably a pullet but they will try and tread anything when young and just starting to mature, Do you have any pictures you can post and we should be able to tell you for sure?

Sorry to intrude on your post. Just wondered what 'starting to tread' means?

"Treading or tread" is the term for a cockerel mating the hen :shock:
