And the bloody fox eats your chickens!
Just one left out of a lovely flock of 5 - my Dark Brahma who is looking a little stunned - no damage to her I think.
I almost wish the fix had taken them all, then I'd have just given up....
Think I'll get a couple of POL hybrids to keep her company, and make sure they get shut up in their run if I think I'm gonna be late home....
I reckon if I get a couple from different flocks, there is a reasonable chance they will all get along OK...

About 11pm - I know, crazy... but we have done the same thing many times over the years, with no problem.
You live and learn!
Ho hum, three new hybrids installed, a speckledy, a bluebell, and a chalk hill blue.

Lets see how well they all get on...
Thanks for all the kind thoughts guys!

So sorry Nick,
I lost a newly installed and beautiful young flock of twelve last Autumn.
As you say, give up or carry on, I carried on, too, and do not regret it.
Heard them again, woke me at 4.00 a.m. last week to find two young foxes hurling themselves at the run to gain entry.
They only slightly backed off when I appeared, then stood watching me from not very far away.
Hope yours settle in O.K., I HATE foxes!!

I thought there was a long waiting list for Chalk Hill Blues - congratulations anyway - assuming you got her from Chalk Hill Poultry, did he just take pity on you, or are they available ATM? (If so I shall be off down there!)

Yep,I had that as well.Cost me a bomb roofing over a very large area in an attempt to keep mine safe.Fox still re-appeared and tried to get in,unsuccessfully i'm glad to say.Strangely haven't seen one at all since my dogs got hold of one and injured it,as I know there's more than one about I still expected others, but no sign for weeks now.I know they'll be back eventually, just hope run remains secure.Like you I hate bloody foxes.
