My singular Khaki Campbell girl, at 5 mo old, started laying this week!!! (barely escaping the butcher block next week.)
I also have a singular Cayuga girl. I have these girls for eggs to eat, with no intent on incubating.
However, I have 7 drakes. Currently, all 9 run together.

So my question: Is it okay to just keep one (Cayuga) drake, or do I need to keep a KC drake, too?
I know they'll be depressed for a while when they're group gets thinned out, too. Thoughts?

Oh, and one more egg question:
I remember reading somewhere on here, or the website, not to wash the eggs until you're ready to use them. Is this true, and why?
Any other eating-egg need-to-knows?

One Cayuga drake will be fine with both girls ;) Are you eating your excess boys or rehoming?

I usually just wipe off if any dirt on the eggs & then just wash before use (when I remember). Wash in water warmer than egg otherwise bacteria can get in as the shell is porous. I

The extra boys are going into the freezer. I've tried selling them, but no takers.
I have been wiping them off with a dry rag or papertowel. Had our first ones for brunch this Sunday, and just washed them off under running water right before breaking. The shells were quite a bit thicker than the store-bought chicken eggs. I was surprised. I'm not a huge yolk-eater, but I guess that'll have to change since the yolks seem to be bigger than chicken eggs, too.
