Hi

My ducklings are 9 weeks old now and are a mixture of grey bibbed calls and minature appleyards. Does anyone know at what age they will need their wings clipping. I would hate to go up one morning to find they have flown off. :o

Hi, you need to wait until all their pin feathers are fully formed- the quills contain blood while they are growing - and only clip one wing - leave the end two or three primary feathers- it will look much better than cutting them all.
regards, David :)

hi i have appleyards and i have just clipped their wings, didn't want to do it would prefer to leave them fully winged but like you i did not want them to fly away.
they are 16 weeks old i checked that there quills were not filled with blood before i trimmed their wings.
