white orpingtons

hi there, i have a trio of white orps. they are nearly 100 % fertile. the chicks are born either pure white or pure silver, is there a reason for this ?. as they grow they do turn white. just wondered why. thanks mick.

Hi Mick,

I kept white orps for a number of years. They should be born with yellow down and then slowly grow white feathers. If there is silver appearing, they are not pure and something has crossed with them along the way in an earlier generation.
