When you've spent 10 minutes writing a post, & it vanishes into nowhere, any idea where it goes & how to get it back??

I find if you use the browser back button or arrow then, if you were replying, click on "Quick Reply" it often comes back. I haven't yet lost a "New Topic" but it may well work with that too.

When you come to make a Reply, if you click on Quick Reply below the original post, you get a simpler format suitable for just text. If you then write your post and accidentally click on Post Reply (in red, bottom left of the posting frame) it all disappears. It's OK if you click on Submit at the bottom of the box in the middle. Try this out for yourself by typing a few words of nonsense into an empty reply box, and then clicking on Post Reply.
If you are replying and you start by clicking on Post Reply before writing anything, you get the full editor including the boxes for uploading attachments, and other fancy bits.
The thing to try to train yourself to do is always to FINISH by clicking on Submit rather than Post Reply, which can lose your work. It's happened to me so many times and its maddening. In other words, use Post reply at the start, but never at the end!

If you start a New Topic, you get the full editor but not the Post reply box, only the Submit box, so this should be OK.

I hadn't ever used Post Reply Marigold, I always use quick reply, then if I realise I want use bold or italics when I'm part way through like now: :D Ijust click on Full Editor and it gives me all the options. :-)08

There's another devil button at bottom right of the box called Hide Quick Reply. This one certainly does what it says on the tin as well.
Full of pitfalls for incompetents like me who use a touch screen iPad!

If you start with Post Reply, you do indeed get the full editor which also has a Preview and Save Draft option, if you have to leave the post before its finished, or as a precaution if going to another site to get a reference.

If you have the opposite problem and actually post something you want to delete, you can do so by clicking on the little black cross at the top line above the post.

If someone has replied at the same time as you, you get the chance to review your text before posting it. When this happens, if you don't click Submit again, it gets lost. I just click Submit anyway, and then Edit the posted text if necessary.

And sometimes I do something which results in my post appearing twice. Haven't worked out how this happens yet, but you can correct it by deleting the duplicate post.

Duplicate posts happen when the Submit button is pressed and nothing happens (delay at the server) so you press it again. Been there and done that. Most annoying is starting a post, going off to do something and being timed out from the server. Should do all my posts on Full Editor so I can Save Draft.

Haven't found this "full editor" yet... but I've got an option at the bottom of this window to save draft, which I've never noticed before. Does that mean that I'm in it?

Yes, that's it... Quick Reply has only Submit and Full Editor buttons and your text box to type into of course.

The 'full editor' has the Smiley's and other bits and bobs and from there you can save a draft.

If you select 'Full Editor' instead of submit, it should keep your text, but open up the full editor with your text in it already... is this not the case?

I've jus discovered what the Hide Quick Reply button does. Yes it does hide what you have been typing (why, I can't imagine) but then, if you click Quick Reply again, it all comes back.

Yes it does Tim. I sometimes use that when I realise I want to use bold or italic or a smiley.

Like this :D
