I have returned, only to go again for a few weeks soon. Got the internet and phone sorted eventually. They send an email when the box is ready to collect -yes, the internet box so we couldn't get the mail!! Then the thing wouldn't connect because the installation instructions are wrong. Then the phone broke and the line developed a fault. But I know from experience BT are even worse. At least France Telecom arrive when they say and quickly, are very polite and helpful.
Marigold was right, we should have kept a video diary. The story of our departure, travel and arrival would have made good viewing.
Been cutting down dead trees for the Winter firewood as well Sue. But only got the internet properly sorted Tuesday. My one post about the Suro temperatures was on WiFi link to a neighbour. Now digging a veggie plot which is currently a weed filled earth bank. Needs terracing then soil treatment as it will provide a big saving in living costs -stuff is fantastic quality here but of course expensive.
The British living here can't give blood. The French think we carry Mad Cow Disease. No, I am not joking!
Our stuff comes over mid-October so until Christmas I am going to be busy. Little Boris and his two remaining girls need a Winter greenhouse erecting and then the new chicks will need attention. A big dog proof enclosure needs building as well. So I think my postings are going to be rather limited for some months to come Sue.

Nice to hear from you Chris and glad you all arrived safely. I'm assuming you all did arrive safely? Bottom etc. etc.

28 arrived safely and of the remaining 27, 26 are none the worse for their journey. Think Tygryseks apple tip is a great one as with a few minutes of eating them they were all completely recovered. Botty is well out of sorts and has stopped eating. We've had to resort to syringe feeding until he gets over what I think is delayed stress causing an ILT flareup.
Neighbours got 4 rescue hens today. Cou-nu they are (first French book I bought had them in), like Tnn's but about 50% heavier and with a band of feathering on their lower neck -a French breed based on TNNs. One had a massive Bumble foot and it took about half an hour to get the solidified puss out. In the end it erupted out together with loads of blood -huge, looking just like something from Alien! and I have a very gory photo of it when I finished. The neighbour took a picture whilst it was still hanging off!

we left the PC in the UK and won't be bringing it over. Haven't worked out how to download photos on this Mac laptop yet but will do. If you've seen Alien Tygrysek? It's the bit where the alien bursts out of John Hurt's chest!

Latest farce with the telephone Sue is that we need one phone to make free international calls via the internet (an Orange package) and one to receive calls on our official France Telecom number (the one we have given to everyone). If we try to use one phone and switch the phone connection the internet box crashes and has to be restarted. Something they didn't tell us when we signed up! We'll probably find that to solve the problem we have to upgrade from the €36/month package to the €46/ month package. With another phone costing just €29 we won't be upgrading.
Spent this afternoon felling and cutting another cubic metre of wood. We should now have enough but it's getting cold here at night now- just 8 degrees so the chickens will start shivering as half are moulting.

Do chickens moult at the same time of year whichever country they live in or does it vary depending on the climate? It seems a stupid time of year to start a moult - just when the weather is getting colder and you need MORE clothes, not less!!

Little Molly Legbar moulted last November and lost 70% of her feathers in a week Sue. She spent a few weeks shivering!
Weather in England was rather cold and wet so most didn't moult when they should. It's still hot here during the day (23 today) but gets rather cold at night (8 again). Tomorrow will be warmer so I expect some of them to stat moulting very late.
Back to Anglettere tomorrow afternoon, so no more posts from me for two weeks after tomorrow morning. Taking a load of metal scrap back with me- 500Kg of it. The scrap merchants here are so far away they are difficult to get to collect so people accumulate it for years and are glad for me to take it away. Should pay for the fuel anyway.
