I now have one hen laying eggs (4 in 4 days! :D ) and 3 others that are still 'growing' up. I wonder if I should now switch to layer pellets, even though the majority are not yet laying. Would it be ok if I mix them up for a bit? Is it not good for my lovely laying hen to continue to eat grower pellets?

I've been using drug free grower pellets so hopefully I've been alright eating the wonderful eggs :?

Oh I wanted to ask also - is it true hens lay later in the the day each day, eventually having a day off?

i have found in my experience that pullets can go on layers rations about 18weeks old, it needs to be mixed in with growers increase layers till they are completely on it. i feed dry mash in morning with a feed of pellets mxd with wheat in afternoon i find it fills the birds up so they go to roost full.

When our first hens started laying, there was one that was a bit late. I waited a week then started 50/50 growers mash and layers pellets. This I continued until all the growers mash had been eaten. About 4-5 weeks later they are all on growers with all the hens laying almost every day.

Hi, i would switch now- just make sure you use a good brand and high protein layers- some are "free range" and much lower in protein.
and yes, they will lay later each day and then miss a day- they normally lay three or four then miss one but it depends on breed, age etc
regards, David :)
