Isolation and quarantine mean the new birds should have no beak to beak contact with the existing flock and need to be a couple of yards away at least. The purpose is to stop any cross infection occuring. The stress of a move can sometimes lower their resistance but I personally never give things like Baytril unless there is a definate need.
You ask if everyone isolates new birds and the answer is definately no. Some don't know they should and some seem not to have the facilities to. Sometimes it works out OK and sometimes it goes very wrong and infection occurs. So really it's up to you to make the decision.
