Wheezy ex bat on antibiotics

I had my 3 ex bats about 3 weeks ago. I have two issues, (first is the bullying, will post on another part of the site) 2nd is that the one who was most bullied decided to sleep all day last Thursday and not eat or drink so I took her to the vets who helpfully said I had got chikcens at the end of their life so I was fighting a loosing battle, but said there was a wheeze and gave a vitamin shot, antibiotics and I have to give 10 days worth of antibiotics at home.

Poorly chicken looked bright and breezy again within a day and is eating fine, not sleeping in the day (on day 7 of meds), but when we pick her up to give meds she wheezes. No runny eyes or sneezing, only other symptom is high colour on her flesh on her back and undercarrage. I was giving flubenvet to all, but stopped her for a day or two when she was poorly so as not to overload her.

I only have 3 days left of the antibiotics and am wondering whether the wheeze might go in this time. She is currently in a box in the utility and I can only let her roam when I get home from work, should I continue to keep her in there until the meds are finished - feels a bit cruel. What if still wheezing..? Husband will have a fit if I have to go and pay for further vet bills......

thanks, any advice would help

I would think if she is a lot better, eating etc that the antibiotics are doing the trick as regard hitting the infecting bug on the head. It is probable that any residual wheeze under stress etc is due to the fact that she will have residual swelling/inflammation of her lungs etc that will take a while to settle down after the infection has cleared. I am sure this will improve over a week or so , glad shes so much better, Ros. :-)99

Hi, I couldn't see the ave icon. Thanks for the reply, it does seem a little less wheezy now. As she is finding the time to bully another chicken I guess she is mostly better. Put all three in last night together so lets hope she doesn't get bullied too much now - sprinkling food all over the floor so as well as two feeders so hopefully there should be less need for bickering (just hope I don't encourage ther vermin!
