whats her breed

Yes, I believe it is fine for children to hatch a clutch of eggs in school then look after them till the farmer takes them back. There is nothing wrong with that!!!!!!!! Chicks are not sent home with children to care for as far as I have ever experienced (but I have only been an early years teacher for 20 years!)

There seemed to be no intention of the farmer having the chicken back looking at the op. I feel you misunderstood my last post re taking class rodents home over holidays.

from what i have heard and this is in my area so i dont knw about other areas is most the eggs dont come from farmers they are just ordered ofline , anyway as for this poor little girlie as this is what the post was meant to be about is shes settling in with the others if very slowly but its happening but my only main prob now is getting her to eat tonight i have had to resort to sitting in the run with her making her eat out my hand as although shes drinking i have not seen her eat and that worrys me as shes losing weight if i put her in the secure little pen she stresses an wants out with the others but all i can do is my best for her :D .

Yes, Karminski. We have rather hijacked your post, haven't we? So sorry on my part but the general theme was schools, teachers and chickens.... certainly that was what many were criticizing in relation to your unloved girlie.

I am more than wiiling to open a new post to continue the debate on the importance of livestock in schools - nobody likes to open their newspaper and read that 75% of inner city children think that eggs come from Tesco's. We all criticize teachers then, don't we? Oh we seem not to be able to win either way!! Damned if we do, damned if we don't (again).

Have you not got a small dog cage or suchlike so that she could be in the run with them in relative safety?

I have one but i tthink you're all the way down south aren't you?

thanks for the offer bickerton but i have one of those houses with the run attached within the main run so she goes in there but today i have left out 6 sets of feeders all round the runs so i am hoping she will get to one of them plus some pellets on the floor , yesterday afternoon she was trying so hard to copy the others when i gave them thier mixed corn i must of spent an hour watching them :D i got a toy chest from work that was being dumped and decided to put it in thier run so it doesnt get wet with all medical stuff etc etc in it so it stays clean and it makes a brillant seat
