As posted a couple of weeks ago one of my chooks isn't laying. Good advice from David & checked for mites which is a possibility (difficult to tell, nothing very obvious but tiny amount of what might be mites :? :o ) so have treated her.

Anyway this chook was sitting in the nesting box for ages, came out when I went in the run with treats then went back again but no egg at the end of it. There definately wasn't an egg as she was sitting in the box that none of them use  This has happened before but as I'm at work most days I can only take real notice 2 days a week so she may have done this more often only I don't know about it!! :?

Can anyone tell me why she might be doing this? She seems fine apart from the above mite possibility, if she was egg bound or something serious I would know about it by now as this isn't a recent thing (few months). Ideas?

Hello, she is not broody is she?
sometimes they can go into the nest box and sit for ages without laying- how old is she? Has she layed before?
regards, David :)

Hi David,

She's approx 1 year old, she & her 'sister' were exchanges for my 2 cockerels from the same breeder. The minute the 2 of them arrived this one took charge & has been 'top bird' from that minute on.

I think she was laying when she first arrived last Autumn. At the time, the others were just starting so I hadn't got to grips with which egg was which & who it belonged to, so I can't be absolutely certain. She then went into a moult, the only one to do so, & I don't think she's laid since.

Has this shed any more light on it :?
Thanx
