i am going to get some antibiotics for my little bantams as one still gets bubbly eyes every few days { although the sneezing as pretty much stopped and shes happy ,eating,and i think laying } or so but i only want the bantams done so i was going to see if my vets will just let me pick some up without having to take her and stress her out so i was wandering if anyone had any ideas how much they weigh as no doubt i will get asked that on the phone shes a little partridge dutch bantam .

Varies by breed Karminski. Dutch are smaller than English Leghorns and they are less than a Kg. About 700 grammes I would say. Have you tried fresh veg and tonics rather than trying antibiotics as it sounds like a touch of Myco?
yep am giving them anything and everything but not at the same time of course , when shes on the garlic she seems to clear up really well but when i stop adding it for a few days or even a day she bubbles up again as i said i really dont want to stress her by taking her away from the others and they all seem really well .
with this weather going up and down like a yo-yo its not surprising that thier are bugs glore out there its going warm again then droping temp by the weekend poor things dont know if they are coming or going so surely the colds and bugs they get must feel the same if you get what i am saying :lol: i was told a lettuce a day keeps the vet at bay umm wander if its true what sort of vegs are good for them with this sort of prob??

Ours get cabbage and apples. The apples they love -we pick them and store them in the cellar. But none of ours have Myco, so I'm not being particularly helpful Karminski. I'm just concerned of over-reliance on antibiotics when she hasn't actually got an infection and it may achieve nothing except disrupt her digestive system and make the problem far worse.
thanks for that chris , i really am in two minds as shes so happy if she was down and sad etc etc then that would be so different , been reading that most backgardens flocks have myco but not all birds show any syptoms thats why it can be hard to know if they have it or not .tricky decision to make

Dutch females generally weigh around 14 to 16 ounces, but if she's been unwell, she may be lighter. If she's tame enough, why not pop her on some kitchen scales?
Unlike some, I'm a great believer in veterinary prescribed medication, and in the case of respiratory infections which can linger if left untreated and become chronic conditions, or develop into full blown infectious diseases that sweep through your other birds if left untreated, I would 'Zap' the infected bird with a course of Antibiotics. In my experience most are fast acting, and most birds are back to full health within a day or two. once the infection has been eliminated, This is when Natural prophylactics are useful to boost a birds immunity, and dietary supplements can help it regain full condition.

i called my vets tonight to ask if i can pick up some antibiotics and i spoke to the boss who is happy to leave my some behind the counter to collect tomorrow which is great as then i wont have to stress my girly by taking her there and then he laughed and said 'i'm getting chickens soon ' wander if he will be on the phone asking advice as i know that he doesnt know much about them :lol:

Better to treat as Lordluck suggested, when a bird immune system is compromised, this can lead to opportunistic infections setting in. Some birds if feeling a little under the weather are clever at hiding their symptoms too.

hes the one that doesnt charge me when i take the girls in wether its for treatment or to p.t.s as he knows i have always given them the best possible care especailly when its been the ex batts { which is what he is getting } tomorrow i will say to him that if he ever needs help or advice then all he needs to do is call me i dont know everything but i know some things that might help him out ,i think they will be having denegard ?? but i cant quite remember if thats what he said .
my girl certainly isnt acting like shes unwell :lol: shes a tough little woman but no enough is enough now shes had long enough to try and sort herself out now its time for me to step in and give her a helping hand only going to cost me £6.03 .
