after living on the farm for 10 months and not seeing a single one in the past 2 days ive seen a weasel twice, how much of a problem will it be to my hens? the sheds secure and weaselproof but the run isnt and its been during the day both times ive seen it. i know they are bloodthirsty little things but would they steer clear of the chickens as the dogs are in the garden frequently??

Weasels tend to specialise in hunting mice and voles, and fledglings of songbirds or the chicks of ground nesting birds. Small bantams, growers or chicks may tempt them, but by and large, bigger poultry are ignored. i know of a free range flock of layers where weasels are regularly seen in and around their field, and so far, in ten years or so, a bird has never been touched by them.
Larger Mustelids pose a greater risk, Polecats, stray Ferrets, Mink and even Otters can decimate Poultry and waterfowl stocks.

thanks for that, i didnt think they would go for the adult birds (lemon pyle brahmas and jersey giants) but just wanted to double check, :D
