We finally got some chicks, they are just the cutest things ever, I'm totally smitten. :D

Hopefully pics will work, I've not added any here before so not sure if I'll do it right or not!

2 Meddlesham Rangers - hybrids - definately hens - 2 weeks old

Lavendar pekin bantam - 5 days old with incredibly dirty feet (any ideas how to clean this up?)

Now this little one was meant to be a Blue pekin bantam but it wasn't until I got home that I realised it has bare legs, so what do you guys reckon it could be?

My eldest is loving the new additions to the family

I've got my fingers (and toes) tightly crossed that they are all hens and we will be really lucky and be able to keep them all!! :D

Hi, they are lovely- you need to wash the pekins feet-and i notice on the other pics some of the chicks have dirt balls on their nails-especially the buff orpington- you need to remove these as they will grow and kill the nail eventually- be careful -dont make then bleed- wash their feet/nails in warm water and make sure you get the muck off their nails-dry them and put them back in the brooder- dont get their fluff or bodies wet just try to take all the muck off their feet-
regards, David :)

Thanks David. I was worried about washing their feet in case they got too cold but I'll give it a go how you've suggested. I was hoping with the cleaner living conditions they are now in then their feet would clean themselves up a bit but no such luck yet.

I'll go do it now, any reason for a cuddle!

thought the chicks were tiny.. til I saw your "eldest!"
no really, they're all so cute
and your cat looks like he thinks the heat lamp is there just for him (her?) to keep warm by!

Well my eldest isn't quite 2 and a half yet and he's got the two week old chicks on his lap. I took this pic to send to family so they realised quite how small the youngest ones were.

She has clean feet now though, this was taken yesterday.

They are so fascinating to watch, and they sleep really funny, I thought one was dead when it first went to sleep!
