Evening,

Has anybody used the above as a disinfectant for your coop/run?

Went to the local country shop today and they recommended the above for a once a year disinfectant. They did say should be used in the summer realy when there is sufficient time for it to dry! But they suggested it was good and would give it a good thorough clean.

They had no general disinfectant so will get that from the local pet store.

Many thanks

It is a very good disinfectant and virucide - I know a vet's practice which uses it. It can be used all year round although as you should thoroughly wet all surfaces, trying to dry a soaked coop in the winter isn't ideal! However, it can be used just as you would any other liquid - eg put in a sprayer and spray/clean so surfaces are damp but not sopping wet. These are much quicker to dry.

Or you can just use Poultry Shield all the time, diluted and sprayed. Specifically safe and effective for poultry. Unless you have a bad infestation of something, I don't see why you need a 'once a year disinfectant.' Just reasonable cleanliness all the time, and then if redmite strikes, quick action with an appropriate mite killer.
Don't forget the drinker and feeder, its easy to overlook them but they're just as likely to harbour bacteria as the coop itself, and of course you need something safe for them as well. Actually, I sometimes put feeder and drinker through the dishwasher for a really good clean.

I tend to use poultry shield as my usual cleaner (for redmite), and then VirkonS maybe once every 1-2 months when I'm doing a deep clean (for bacteria). For that reason, its my go-to cleaner and gets used more often in the hatching season :D
