Urgent Plea - Battery Hens Needing Homes

the drop off points are always to far away from me, my step dad got 12 last year but had to drive well over an hour

thats the one thing i find hard to deal with is the journey you have to sometimes make , luckily mine were at the backs of my horses vets so it was only a 10 min journey the motorway but 30 mins trying to find the place in the middle of no where so wish i had the ground as i would happily have a holding area and pick up area .

Hi all,

I am a first time chicken keeper and last week attended a BHWT rehoming day. I originally intended to get 4 ex-batts, but got a little carried away and ended up taking home 6 on the day, intending to re-home the extra 2 myself to help the cause! They are all such lovely girls, but I'm pretty sure that their run and house is too small for all 6 of them. They are all missing a few feathers, but much less than we expected, and have beaks (see my avatar for photo of Annie!) They are very friendly and seem healthy and are laying very well - we have more eggs than we can eat and give away!

Do let me know if anyone is interested in giving our 'spare pair' a home (we are in West London). We'd like them to go to someone who is able to give them the love and attention they need and ideally someone establishing a new flock, or someone who is experienced in adding to their flock, as these girls have already had a very hard life (although you wouldn't guess it by their sweet natures!)

There is another one of these re-homing days on the 28th January in COVENTRY.
Although this is an hour away we are hoping to maybe get a few girls.
We had some 2 years ago, and although we only have 1 left she is the only layer out of all my girls.
Dont get me wrong they are hard work. Some have to be trained on how to walk, and perch :o But boy oh boy are they full of rewards when they get to trust you.
