DORSET BATTERY HENS NEED YOUR HELP!

From the BHWT:

You may be aware that the current barren cage system came to an end on 31st December. All the hens that were in this cage system were taken out of cages. A lot went to slaughter at this time. We brought one of the last flocks to BHWT co-ordinator Fiona Gibson at Toller Porcorum. As a result Fiona has a number of hens still not allocated at her home.

We appreciate that winter is not the best time to be doing this but the girls would rather be snuggled up in your hen house than the alternative!

We are happy to give you tips for looking after the hens in the colder weather

Please let me know IMMEDIATELY if you are able to help – we will put you in touch with Fiona to arrange a suitable day and time to collect the hens.

Any new hens would need to be kept separate from existing hens initially and we would not advise adding one or two to a bigger flock.

These are the last of the barren caged battery hens – let’s try and help them.

With Thanks

if i was local i would have them tomorrow but i am at the other end of the country nearly ,good luck i hope someone takes them on very soon , so does this mean that from now on the birds might be slighty better taken care of now ???

How many are there? My partner's mum has a lone cockerel as her hens died. She needs 4 or 5 i reckon, no less than three though as the cockerel will stress the hens. She's got a lovely loft space they could cuddle in while they feather up i imagine and then they can go out to the coop with the boy. let me know she's in West Somerset. Once I hear from you I will speak to her about it. She's been looking for some hens.

Steph, I think you may need to reply to the private email in the post as she may not see your reply. I would hate for them to miss out on a lovely new home!
