my little dutch millifluer bantam seemed every fine earlier then about an hour later i went back to check on the girls and her wings were nearly on the floor and she was very quiet and puffed up she was not to happy about being caught ethier but when she put herself to bed on the perch about 30 mins before bed time i knew something wasnt right as its her and her sister i have trouble getting to bed , i cant feel anything under her and i dare not check for being egg bound as i doubt my finger would fit into her with her being so small .i havent seen her drink or eat tonight as it was amost bed time but now the quantine is empty i have put her and sister in there to get some peace there is no other syptoms but its worring me to death as i really dont want to lose her these 2 are my little beanie babies .
but i have had 2 poorly girls recently and 1 i had p.t.s yesterday as her poos went funny and she lost all colour in her feathers and really puffed up and stopped eating so i decided to let her go and the other one seems to be improving although she still has a bit of laboured breathing but i am so so paranoid now that they all have something wrong even though 99% are very happy etcetc this tends to happen every so often i can go ages without anything going wrong then all of a sudden everything comes at once :( i now cant wait for 6 am to hurry up and get here .

As you know Karminski, they often don't show they are ill until they are past saving. Having said that they do drop down and then pick up as if nothing happened. Keeping my fingers crossed for her.

Just gently feel around the vent and between the bones, there's no need to stick a finger up. You should be able to feel if there is anything wrong in that area and sometimes you can feel an egg if you press gently.

i have checked her this morning and normally shes very happy to have a cuddle but this morning she wasnt :( but i cant feel anything at all although it looks like she is trying to push from the back end as there is a lot of movement i cant do much for her tell later as i got to go to work but they are on thier own in the quiet so i am hoping that helps her as when i have hda birds like that before they normall pass something if left in the quiet , there was a kinda soft shell egg in the hutch but i dont know if it was her or her sister that laided it , i will come home at 10 am to check her but i am so worried for her . chris your right about them going down one min and being fine the next i got everything crossed .

There have been suggestions before on the forum when a hen is having trouble passing an egg to sit her in a bowl of warm water. Don't know whether this would help.

I did this with one of mine when she first came in to lay. I put her in a warm bath for a while and she seemed to enjoy it, I also put a bit of petroleum jelly round her vent to help. By the time I'd emptied the bath and put a towel round her she laid her egg! I also dried her completely by using a hair dryer on the warm (not hot) setting which is when I really started to panic... she enjoyed it so much I thought she'd collapsed, but she was merely luxuriating!

yiipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee shes back to normal i am so happy :D :D :D must of been her that laid that egg during the night wow what a relief.
