Hi all i have a faverolle bout 15wks old has developed toilet issues dirty rear and seems 2 be struggling 2 get poo out hav cut down on food intake and feeding warm mash with codliver oil 2 try and free her up a bit but no real improvement. any1 any ideas 2 help her out...cheers

Hi Darryl, a dirty rear can indicate a number of things. A couple of questions..has she have been wormed recently?..does her crop feel normal ie.. empty in the morning and full at roosting time. What do her droppings look like? firmish with a white cap is normal.
Does she feel a normal weight, a 15 week old faverolles is still a grower really, so won't be too heavy yet, or in lay, but she shouldn't feel light or have a sharp keel bone.

yeah have wormed her seems droppings vari from firm 2 very runny. she just seems 2 put so much effot in 2 poohin but not much comes out lots of pressure at her rear she is really squezin hard. do u think a heavy dose of wormin tonic may flush her out. her weight seems fine thought the cod liver oil mite hav flushed her out or eased any blockages...Cheers

Did you use Flubenvet for worming or something else?

Sometimes if the gut is so full of worms, they can become impacted but I would expect you to be seeing lots of worms in faeces when looking carefully..

Perhaps a blockage - but I would have thought it would have blocked at the crop to be honest.

Sorry Daryl, if it's not worms, I can't think of anything else it could be right now  if she doesn't improve shortly, perhaps a trip to the vet ...

Do let us know how she gets on though.

Hello, i would check for lice/feather mites- a dirty bottom is a sign- wash her vent area in warm soapy water and dry -keep in in the warm until her feathers are dry. You need to wash the muck off to stop her adding droppings to the dirty feathers that are there- they will not preen mucky feathers. Once washed you may find the problem is no longer :-)07 Let us know how she goes,
regards, David :)
