My 2 year old brown warren, Clover, has been laying slightly strange shaped eggs with the last few weeks and some have had very thin shells that crack very easily. I've even had to throw some away as I've noticed that they were cracked before I went to use them. For the past few days there have been no eggs from her but I've noticed some liquid that looks like yolk in their roost.(They normally all lay in nest box).

The other 2 chickens are both fine with good, strong normal eggs. They all have access to plenty of grit and oyster shell.

Any ideas?

Sometimes the odd hen does have a bit of a egg laying drama early summer, especially hybrids. You can only keep a close eye on her, make sure she is eating and drinking well and watch out for other symptoms that indicate she may be struggling with laying her eggs such as change in weight, anxiety, droopiness or checking the nestbox frequently. You can add a little cod liver oil to her pellets plus a touch of poultry spice to aid calcium uptake. This will take a good few weeks to take effect however. It may actually do her good to have a bit of an "off lay" period by the sounds of it.

Thanks, Foxy. Poor thing. She's been such a brilliant layer up until now, all through the winter. Might give her some poultry tonic as a pick me up though she's still very well and active in herself and eating well.

If she is well and active then just a touch of cod liver oil and a pinch of poultry spice which has specific minerals to help with the absorption of calcium.

This is a good article and worth a read Ponygirl, might be some pointers in there?
