Margaid, I agree that the "instruction" leaflets that come with appliances these days are useless. I have a Prestige Slow Cooker recipe book, not that I've ever had a Prestige slow cooker. I bought the book second hand off a market stall or in a jumble sale. I've looked on Amazon but it's not there. Maybe worth you looking on Amazon - I often go for the used copies which are a lot cheaper and usually hardly used.

I also agree about mobile phones. I have downloaded the Scotgov Protect and Trace or whatever app but I still have to be reminded to take my phone out with me (and switch it on). I will need it tomorrow when I go for my vaccination so that OH knows when to come and get me. I use my macbook usually, and my ipad in bed but the iphone is far to small to do eg online banking. I'd be scared of making mistakes.

Slow cooker for us, nice to go out all day and come home to the dinner cooked.

Mobile Phones are great for being out somewhere and being able to call for help if a breakdown occurs. or you are running late. But I hate the fact that people are glued to them 24/7

That's what I was looking forward o when I bought a slow cooker but there seems to be a lot of fiddling about and changing of heat settings. So I've stuck with my pressure cooker but that makes stew rather than a casserole. Any one got any tips or can recommend a good slow cooker book? The instructions with it are pretty well useless.

Quite agree about mobile phones BYM. People can't understand that I just want to make the occasional call (when all I have is a mobile number) and send a few texts. I don't want to look at emails, internet banking or any of the other things people try and persuade me to do. It's very much a device for my convenience not other people's. I'm about to go out to post some letters ad I won't be taking it with me.

Our slow cooker needs no fiddling, just low, high, and warm. Some recipes suggest high for an hour then low. But in the min we just leave it on low. We have that book Lady A, and also Slow Cooker, Quick and easy, proven recipes by Gina Steer

Ive just done battle with an ip camera (typical wi-fi camera) since 6pm this evening trying to make it do the obvious and send video to my web browser. No way! The hardware is perfectly capable of it but the software is stitched up tighter than (well the reason ducks dont sink!) This is what I dont like about modern tech - if you want it to work on Ipad, google or alexa then sign up and take what's given. If you just want it to work without signing up for the package then forget it unless you pay £800 for the hardware. In this respect the US is so far ahead of us because over there you can buy open hardware for a quarter of the price... probably because they are the ones stitching it up but fair play, we let them do it! Sorry, moan over

OH bought a small air fryer and the leaflet was useless. He then bought an air fryer cookbook but it was in American and the stuff they cooked in it totally defeated the object of using one.

I think a lot does depend on where the product is originally made. I had always envied how cheap everything seems in America, till I started tinkering about with Weber carburettors. I've just rebuilt one using a £25 service pack which included two bags of bits. The less valuable bag costs £60 on its own in the US.
