Hello!

As predicted I have the chicken bug and would like to add to my 4 lovely chickens. We're only allowed a total of six so I was thinking of getting 2 white stars, but if anyone has any suggestions on what might live well with 2 black rocks and 2 light sussex then let me know! :D

My question is I know its good practice to separate the birds for at least a week and let them get use to each other (I'll pop them in the run during the day, whilst the others are free range), but where should I keep the new additions at night? I was thinking an adapted rabbit hutch, or is that too small? I'd be really interested to know what other people have used.

I have 4 chooks and they live in an adapted rabbit hutch, just make sure it's a good size and some perches/nest boxes and they'll be good!

Hello, they should be fine in a rabbit hutch at night for a while- then in with the rest of your girls- white stars are excellent layers of pure white eggs- they are based on white leghorns.
regards David :)

Yes, temporary housing can be anything really as long as it is fox proof and gives enough space for them. Many breeders that have to keep pairs / trios / cockerels isolated buy large rabbit hutches to use for this.

Hi
I made this house for my growers before I introduced them to my older 3. I followed a plan from the Haynes Chicken Manual and it only cost me about £25. The surrounding pen I made from 2 wooden palettes, my local wood merchant gave me free of charge. The pen is now an extention to the aviary we built when I started keeping Chickens last March. Want to extend some more later to give them more space. I let them out as often as I can, to free range the garden, at least twice a day. Problem is I need to be out with them because of foxes!
Anyway see attached and good luck, hope this helps. I love the 2nd photo of the older ones looking on!!
