Just wanted to pop on & say thanks you so much to everyone who commented & gave advice at the weekend re my poorly girl.
We kept her in over night on the first day & returned her to the flock the next morning keeping a close eye on them all through the day. She slowly improved to eating & drinking by herself & then started foraging with the others round the garden.
I got a poultry tonic for their water & treated them to some mixed corn & I even bought a second feeder just in case she was being bullied. She has now made a full recovery :D
I'm still not entirely sure what the cause was & probably never will be, but we're all just really relieved that Delilah is back to good health & all the advice given was so helpful.
Many Thanks, J

Pleased to hear it JanineE. Problem is you don't get time to try one thing at a time and have to hit them with everything you can think of at once. That makes learning about chickens so much more difficult.

Sometimes they bounce back quickly. Everything about keeping hens is not doom and gloom ! Good to hear the good news.

You do realise you're in one of the most famous poultry spots in the world ??? Where the world famous, beautiful, productive and one of the most influential breeds of chickens of all time was created ??

The Rhode Island Red - and you ask us for advice !!! We are not worthy ! :-)99

That's very nice Chuck, and I wish that I could say thay my family had a part in developing that breed, but, I can't. I'm a transplant from Michigan, I do love the "Reds", that's why I have four of them. Pretty much all I know about chickens is how to feed and clean up after them. This is a GREAT web site and I hope to learn as much from "You Seasoned Chicken Keepers" as I can.
So, that being said....I'm the one that's not worthy. I bow to all of you.

I can overlook the fact that you were originally from Michigan .................. lets just celebrate one of America's finest !
