Hello

Just wanted to pick your brains, our blackrock laid a strange egg today. It was normal shape and colour but it had attached to it lots of little bobbles on the outside of it. I'm sure it nothing to worry about but I wondered what might have caused it (is it a sign she's not getting something she needs).

Thank you in advance

Hi I'm afraid Im not expert but I wonder if it could be excess calcium where it hasn't been applied evenly if the bobbly bits are hard. I have had eggs which hav raised bits before and not perfectly smooth. I can't think what else it could be really. Nothing to worry about I'm sure and doesn't sound like calcium defficiency as the shells would be thin. Chickens will always lay a strange egg every now and again, I had an egg with not shell the other week and for the last three days one of my hens has been layin huge eggs which are double the size of the others and double yolkers (one of which did have funny raised lines round the middle of it but think it's due to it's size which was like a goose egg). Hope this helps a bit xx
