Hi, why when i go to stroke my Bluebelles back does she squat ? I take she's after being mated, naughty girl she is only 5mths old !! She's been doing it for a week, i suppose she will just stop after a time ? thanks x

No, she won't stop. It's what girl chickens do when you go to stroke them, or put your hand out to them.
I assume it is to do with mating, but I thought it was to do with acknowledging the boss.
She reslly isn't being a rude girl, just nature!!

Good morning Starpaws,

Ours do the same thing. Walk up to them and it's almost like the anticapation of being stroked or mounted they drop down and kind of open their upper wings. In the begining I just thought they REALLY liked being stroked. It must be a natural reflex associated with becoming "sexually receptive". I don't know, at least it sounds good ;)

All hens do it when they get to laying age because they think you are a rooster trying to fertilize their egg and this is the mating position.
