Hi folks, sorry to say we're under a major spam attack from a person called MariaDoogy. 62 posts in less than 3 hours so far, they seem to be arriving faster than I can delete them. I have sent a message to Tim asking if he can delete her/him, and I've put her on the Banned list so in the meantime, please ignore the spam posts and don't open any of the links.
Thank you.

PS I've deleted all 62 of the posts so far, so I hope that has got it sorted.

Why do people do that? What's the point?

Thanks for dealing with it Marigold; I hope for your sake it stops.

Thanks Margaid. I used my moderator powers for the first time ever and banned the offender, which stopped the flow of spam, and Tim has now deleted the account. There were only two posts, endlessly repeated all over the forum, both advertising dodgy software to help users set up programs which would evade those Captcha settings which ask you to prove you're not a robot. Presumably to help more people to get in where they shouldn't be and post unwanted links automatically.
Tim works hard to check the IP addresses of everyone who tries to register here, and has developed a nose for the suspicious ones, but inevitably some will get through now and then.

What they are doing is using the Poultrykeeper forum (and lots of others) as a showcase for their supposedly capable 'hacking' software. They are pretending to demonstrate that their software can fool the registration process into accepting a robot as a new member. (proof being the flood of posts on the forum). What they (a person) actually did is register as normal then post as if they were a robot (possibly using a script after logging on.) The purpose being to advertise to wannabe 'hackers' out there to search out and download their software. You can imagine what happens when they do - its a sort of real 'hackers' preying on wannabe kids thing that is going on. Anyone (well almost) who seeks out pre-written malicious software to use on others is, of course, very likely to get bitten themselves.
