Some polands and others!

Hi David,

They are so cute and comical in the nicest sense! The Polands look as though tehy are sporting a 1950's bouffant hairdo......
 
Love the polands- am putting the white crested black and blue on my wish list - we only have chamois bantam at the minute and they're fab!

Thanks David, Sounds like a fantastic idea! Let me know around what date they'll be ready and I'll check I have an incubator available then :D One of my broodies hatched 3 polands and a pekin yesterday - only gave her 4 eggs as she's a first timer- so am delighted. I'll take some photos once they're up and about ;)
 
Hi, will let you know-they are good birds- top lines- good standard-correct crest with a semi circle of colour at the front- i only breed from the very good ones- I do have some "Beebe" lines- they are the "name" in polands- but i have had these for about 30 years now- you may not get any blues as they seem to hatch nearly all black- even though the genetics say 50% of each i find it's more like 10-20% ! That's another hobby of mine- i like blue/blue and white birds- Polands, Coronation Sussex but breeding good solid colour blue is very hard- you have so much "waste" :(

They look lovely birds. Do you keep any splash birds then? I've read that in some breeds they breed splash to black to get 100% blue birds or is this complicated in the polands by the white crest?
 
Hello, to get splash you need to breed blue to blue- 50% blue 25% black and 25% splash- then you breed splash to black and get 100% blue- I dont have a blue cockerel-I did have years ago but he is long gone :(
blue to blue= 50% blue 25% black 25%splash
blue to black= 50% blue 50%black
black to black= 100% black
splash to black=100% blue
splash to blue= 50% blue 50% splash
splash to splash=100% splash
