Please can I have a little bit of help?
Doris laid her first egg on Monday! Hooray! When she laid yesterday, she did it in the coop and worse to come, today Doris laid a soft shelled egg in the coop. Every day she lays, she seems to find a new problem!
Doris does have access to oyster shell bits and is free to wander round the garden as much as she likes.
Could she be poorly or lacking something in her diet? She is fed on pellets and hardly any treats.
Any help appreciated!

From your post Iam guessing she is young? You said her first egg? Things will probably settle once she gets into a regular lay. Just keep up the grit and quality food for her in the meantime.

PS: Shorter days and darker longer nights (boo!) may mean she won't really lay for much longer this year so roll on Feb 2012 for her lovely fresh eggs

Thanks for your help.
Yes she was at POL in August so is only young. She is a warren so I thought would lay for all but a couple of months each year. (I expect everyone reading this is laughing at my stupidity now!!!)

No only teasing!

They often take a few days/weeks to settle into a laying routine.

She was not POL in August, she was at POL just before she laid her first egg ! Many pullet growers are sold labelled POL at 16 weeks but are unlikely to lay until 22, 24 or even 25 weeks old. You have not been done down, it's just the way the system works and I'm sure when she settles down you'll be pleased with her and you should get a good supply of eggs throughout the winter.

What you are feeding is fine.
