Hi everyone, thanks so much for your help with my sick hen and my fox. Now I have another question. My four girls will not sleep on the perch. They insist on sleeping together all squashed up in the nesting box. What am I doing wrong. I have checked the perch is 4 inches from the floor and at least 2 inches wide, I go down every night and pick them up and move them from the box to the perch, if I go back an hour later they are all back in the box. All suggestions gratefully recieved...

...some hens are just awkward! a few of ours much prefer being heaped in the nest box, while their friends/sisters perch like proper hens!

A few of mine won;t use the perch, it does not mind how many times I place them on there, they seem to jump back down as soon as my back is turned!

Some of mine dont perch either, I just let them sleep where they like & OH cleans out the nestboxes

wow thanks, the perch is higher than the nest box so thats not it... the breeder told me they must perch at night or their digestive systems don't get a chance to work properly. Beginging to wonder if he wanted me to buy his coops!!! I have been so worried about them not perching but from the sound of it lots of chickens don't perch. thank goodness for one good thing..

Not heard of that one before! :-)07 They will be telling you that his/her cockerels lay eggs next

Begining to wonder too.... he did try and sell me a couple and I went in for one chicken of one specific breed and came out with three none of whom were the breed I had planned to get. Reckon he's a good salesman!
