Sick hen - not eating - very lethargic

Hi there,
I have a young pullet - just started laying. Stopped eating about a week ago and had a crop full of soour liquid (Sour Crop I thought). Poo was watery and greenish. I empied her crop in the prescribed way and fed her a mixture of natural yogurt and crushed garlic with boiled water to drink. She seemed to perk up after about 24 hours.
Gave her some grain after a day or two of the treatment and put her back in her coop after a few more days.
She seemed to be gradually getting back to form but she has recently taken a turn for the worse-stopped eating and has really slowed down. Her poo is now a sludgy white colour and smells terrible and is sticking to the soft feathers under her vent.
I could really do with some advice!
 
??????Could be you cleared the stale muck from crop but the obstruction is still there so causing it to return .I'd be inclined to repeat your treatment along with some veg.oil and gentle crop massage followed by some live maggots to try move any obstruction along.Just to try to cover everything,if she were mine I'd probably treat for coccy too.Hope she gets better soon .Ros
 
P.S.--------whatever the cause----if not drinking then oral fluids (via syringe is easiest) are vital.Ros
 
Thank you for the helpful advice. I will try the yoghurt etc. with the veg oil. Need to source some maggots from the local fishing store.

Which wormer would you recomend. could I mix a small amount of flunenvet into some oil and give that to her.

Your information has been very enlightening and helpful and it is gatifying to know that there are people like yourself out there who are willing to help.
Unfortunately the wee pullet has not made it. This morning, she wasnt even able to take the maggots I got for her. I felt that it was wrong to continue when she was in such a weak state and was not responding to treatment.

They all look really healthy - rushing about all over the place when they are let out & preening themselves in the middle of the day & all laying as well. They are a delght to watch.
I have been giving them some ACV and they are on fresh ground & new coop but I will be worming them asap - just to be sure.
I need to get some Flubenvet - going up to the local farm shop tomorrow - hopefully they will have some.

I'm glad to hear the others are well Ray.

The supplier needs to be registered to be able to sell Flubenvet 240g packs - quite a few aren't because it costs them £350 a year.

If you have a small number of hens, the cheapest I have found is to use Flubenvet 1% 60g pack which is enough to worm 20 large fowl. It also comes with a scoop to measure the right amount. It's usually cheaper to buy it online.

The link above has some information (from Jansen the makers of Flubenvet) and I have also put some links up on there for the cheapest places to buy it from (they also help the site :-)07 )- Amazon is usually the cheapest at £12 - £13 per pack. A search in Google also should show you some prices too but most are usually £13 to £14 unless you have a special offer.
