Hi All,

I am new to this forum and have been getting into quail for a while now, using them for my family and selling a few to friends and family. The thing is we a family member works in a resturant and they have asked to buy some, but would like an invoice. I have also had interest from other local shops but they too require invoices.

My question is are there any laws on selling quail eggs? I did read the post re: Use by dates. But will we need to declare sales etc to the dreaded taxman?? Really unsure, would love to sell them as we get a few but dont want to end up doing the wrong thing and getting in trouble.

Any help much appreciated.

Hi yep i understand that there are many rules & regulations out there about selling eggs in general. Normally quail eggs are sold in clear plastic boxes so there colour can be seen easily. The containers must carry the name & address of the producer. And the date when they was packed and packing station number which you can obtain from your local EMI Egg officer together with all the rules & regulations regarding the sale of your eggs.

I know a local guy in essex who sells quail eggs locally to shops etc. You could contact him perhaps he could help & advise you. His website is as follows. http://www.quails-in-essex.co.uk/quail_eggs_about.html~

Quail eggs are different to hen eggs, regarding selling them.As to regards tax man etc,I'm not sure you would be producing enough eggs to have to pay taxes,it gets confusing, but you're not actually a business :? .
Would suggest contacting your local tax office and enquire there.
