Hello

I have a question about Muscovys and salt intake. I'm in Africa and can't get feed pellets, so I'm making up my own feed. I'm trying to ensure I give them enough protein. I can get cheap and plentiful stock fish (dried and salted sea fish), but I wonder whether that much salt would be good for them. Does any one know if Muscovys are sensitive to too much salt?

As for the rest of the mix, I tend to about 2 parts maize, 2 parts wheat, 1 part sorghum, 1/2 peanuts and a sprinkle of yeast. Then they forage all day for greens and bugs.

Thanks,
Jibi

Excess salt is hard on the kidneys of all birds. I know that the commercial preparations of waterfowl feed available here typically have no more than 1/2 of 1% of sodium. The dried fish sounds like a great source of protein, just not the salted part.
