Rose Comb

So why is the comb type found in many breeds eg the Wyandotte called a rose comb. It’s a flat strip with a few knobbles. Now if you stretch the imagination you might say the comb on a Silkie resembles a rose. Or is it nothing to do with the flower at all?

I doubt it has anything to do with watering cans, but another meaning of 'rose' is 'Protuberance round base of animal's horn or some birds' eye' (Oxford dictionary 1952). That is the same sort of shaped growth. There is also a 'walnut' comb, which is similar to the rose but smooth- no idea what breed carries it, I've just looked at some very old poultry illustrations.
