I am thinking of putting my birds on some land which is full of anthills. I thought they would really enjoy the ants eggs and ants and it would help to clear the land. Now I read that in Africa ants pose a threat to chickens and can kill them. Does anyone know if British ants are dangerous?

I'll confess I've never even thought about this - I've happily moved my hens on to a patch with ants two or three times and watched as they gleefully annihilated the ants. I had an old Sussex who was a real digger, she would destroy an ants nest in an hour or two.

Thank you Cab. Glad to hear your experience with hens and ants was good.

Mine love clearing ants - was digging up some potatoes & some of mine helped :-)07 when they saw some ants.

Sounds like how mine like 'helping' me gather in gooseberries or currants :)
