Resizing photos on a Mac laptop

I know this subject has been covered before for Microsoft and when we had the old PC we used Jasc Paintshop Pro8 to do it -a very simple process. Can anyone advise on free download software we can use on our Mac, which only has the basic software package installed on it?
 
Chris, I have a Mac and when I was trying to upload my Avatar I couldn't get it the right size to be accepted and someone suggested a way to do it, but I can't remember what it was! Perhaps you could look back on previous posts to see if you can find it. It was several months ago now. I will also have a look and see if I can remember.
 
Thanks Sue. Looking back at the post in February Tim suggested using iphoto on the Mac. Not sure we have that software but will look. You created your avatar on the Windows laptop.
 
Oh dear! Yes, I remember now. I spent several days trying to do it on the Mac and eventually gave up and used the other computer!!!!!

You should have iPhoto because it comes with the laptop, it's included software on all Macs.
 
Can't find any image resizing on it though Sue. Cropping and image enhancing or colour changing but no resizing? Need to look at Tim's post on the subject again.

We've got loads of photos to post, including the Bumpa beak bit fitting process, but can't because of the resizing problem.
 
Sorry Chris, I've had a look today and I'm afraid I can't find out how to do it either! Will look again when I get chance.
 
Why not upload them to Photobucket, there is an uploader for Mac. resize them there.
Host them there. Or have a look at this

That's the problem with Macs, by the time you have paid their over the top prices.
You have nothing left for decent applications :D Linux is better served than Mac. :-)05
 
Thanks Eddie. this is the only thing we have had problems with. Everything else on the Mac is vastly superior to Windows.
 
Rosie has written down the resizing instructions that Eddie gave us the link to. Just have to find a bit of time. Putting up the greenhouse took longer than I expected, then the babies need to be moved into the trailer so the power lead needs routing over the drive through the trees (one tried crowing this morning -5 weeks old !). Then there is the insurance claim form(£700 of transit damage) and the 2000 square metre enclosure to protect the chickens from the landlords dogs and the Chasse. Then back to the UK for two weeks to finish the joinery in the main bedroom so I can bring all my woodworking tools back. I'll get there in the end Sue.
 
Forgot to do the two rearing units for the babies Sue. They were scrubbed clean in the UK so needed treating here. So coops are repainted and runs Cuprinol'd and in greenhouse drying off -only covered area we have apart from my trailer. Trouble is all the dry storage space agreed in the rental (which turned out to be half the size it was supposed to be!) has the house contents in it. All the wood for fuel is under sheeting outside, one of the four chicken shelters is used for extra undercover storage outside (but is intended to house the generator in a long power cut). Babies are flying around the storeroom pooing everywhere. Place looks a bit of a mess at the moment actually!
 
Not a chance Sue. Got the Bumpa bit photos ready to resize then got sidetracked working out the coop supply 'grid' -so they can all have heaters, because it gets really cold here. Last year didn't rise above -12 for three weeks. The cable I have bought is rubber sheathed so it will remain flexible at those temperatures, whereas PVC hardens at 5 degrees and can crack sub-zero. Just put the 60 metre main link in to the trailer, then it goes from there to a distribution box 50 metres away where the majority of the coops are. From the box leads go to each coop.We had a lighting system similar in the UK based on 12V supply.

If I do get bored I can try to get the satellite TV running. But we've been quite happy without it so far. 1 metre dish needs assembling onto the tripod and roughly aligned, then the signal tuned for maximum strength. 28 degrees east of south and 32 degree elevation apparently -never had one before.
