Request to send Chickens abroad???

Anyway, we have chickens up for sale on the Omlet website and I have received this following email today...

Good evening.I' m from Greece and i don't know very good English. I have a little farm with silkies and sebright bantams and I want buy from england new bloods because i know that you have very good chikcens. How easy is buy chikcens from england ? Can I? PLEASE WRITE ME BECAUSE I WANT SO MUCH BUY. THANK YOU VERY MUCH

Does this sound at all legitimate? or is it some kind of strange attempt at a scam?

Either way, we are not sending the chickens abroad but I was just curious about the logistics - is it even possible?

Have the Greeks got money to spend then ?

Any poultry going abroad you need to find out the health protocols (requirements) of the importing country.

Contact the Defra Export Dept to find out.

I have a lisence to send hatching eggs abroad (europe and a couple of other countries) I would say there is no point sending birds - the cost is enormous, the stress on the birds even worse - better off sending your eggs - even then it's very complicated - and expensive really only worth it if your birds are some of the very top -

Aside from the greeks having money to spend 05 surely they have silkies in Greece.... :?

The birds are not going abroad so I am not even going to investigate the cost as I am sure it would be huge - and we would need insurance too. And they are just gold silkies - cute and fluffy....

Hi Avira - yes I can send to India - but as I said above it is very very expensive - also I have to have the breed you need.. and also at the moment not all are laying, and to be worth it you have to buy a lot of eggs as a hatch rate of 30% would be excellent. I've sent them to all over, but I have no idea what your postal system is like.. taking into account that just to get to France, it's 4 days, and lately Isreal - which took 10 days - - just for the checks that I have done here - vet, etc you are talking about £50 before postage and the eggs themselves - I have a few friends in India who have birds - what breeds are you looking for - a whole lot cheaper and easier if they can be found in India

I've looked into exporting less than 20 chickens, more is far more complicated. Defra sent me a sample of the paperwork. Basically a vet has to take poo samples which must be sent off to be analysed for a few real nasty diseases. If all the samples are negative he signs off the paperwork, copy to Defra and you can go. Then the usual transportation rules apply.
