? red mites

molly came to me alive with lice but by time i frontlined her it was too late for her little brain now damaged but a healthy big girl now.
il have to put pictures up .
the red mite are a bugger to get rid. i cleaned and sprayed the shed 4 weekends in a row, 2 jays 2 insecterside. and i spot oned the chicks and sprayed with mite spray the chickens
we clear now thank god but now my mums chooks got them

if your going to get them then you will i dont think theres mnuch anyone can do but they do freak you out , i have just moved the last 3 shed panels that were broken up to go to the dump from the trailer to the allotments ready for burning tomorw and i am now worried that i have some on me even though i have had a shower .

i think iv bought them home with me from mums found 2 on me while watchin tv. tomorrow to get more chemicals i think

i had some on me last night from removing that wood out the trailer it drove me paranoid all night .

We got a red mite detector from Ebay. Very clever way of identifying the early stages of a red mites makes them easier to get rid of. I’d highly recommend them.

How do lice come onto the chickens?

I imagine they get there just as redmite and worms do. Dropped in by carrier. Sparrows are a red mite carrier... I imagine it's the same with Lice.

BTW... I can't help but notice all these expensive "modern remedies" ... What's wrong with a good coat of Creasote? OK the birds need to be kept away for a while, but 2 times a year and always on bare wood seems to work.... :-)19 .... so far. (Got the idea off the older geezer on next lottie that's kept all sorts of poultry for half a century)

Reb. Found 50:50 mix of creosote and paraffin even better. Doesn't darken the wood so much and dries in 3 days. Can apply Cuprinol garden shades over it as well because it doesn't leave an oily surface.
