Anothe newbie question!

Can red mite affect cats and humans

thanks :D

Don't know about cats but they jump onto humans and bite and keep biting. We have to put all our clothes in the wash after treating a coop for red mite. Also knew someone who bought them into the house and they populated their sofa, which had then to be fumigated.

Oh, lovely!
I once leaned on the post of the chicken enclosure, talking to my freind, then I realized they were crawling all up my arm. They were still grey though, hungry and newly hatched. That was how I found out that the coop was infested, two years ago.

Had to treat the vaccumn cleaner yesterday. Used it to clean out the joints and the coop before treatment. Sealed the bag and threw it out but some eggs must have got onto it and they hatched over the weekend. They had also crawled out of the flexible pipe.
Think it is safe to say they will jump onto your cat Gullsrock.

Suspect red mite may be rampant at the moment. Found it in the hen house recently and it took some very serious effort to get shot of it. Mentioned it to a couple of other people locally who were sure that they were clear of it, but close inspection proved otherwise.

Like chrismahon, I was stripping off at the back door and putting all my clothes in the wash after cleaning the hen house. Even thinking about it is making me itch. Hope it hasn't managed to get into the house, that would be awful.

We have a wooden hen house and I used ant powder under the eves, under the floor and dusted the roof when all was clear as a precautionary measure, then was astonished to see dead mites on the roof the following morning.

Checking daily at the moment, and so far all clear. Not nice.

Yes, any warm blooded animal can carry them as a feeding host, but they don't stay on long and then they hide and breed. quickly, similar to fleas.
