Thank you Ros,Lydia and Tim for your helpful advice. I took Ada to the vet today and discovered she had a tumour! The vet gave me options but I know birds and anasthetics are pretty dicey, so I opted to have her pts to save her any more pain. I've just buried her. She's my first girlie to go and I know she won't be the last. The vet said tumours are not that common in chickens so hopefully that's the first and last one. One good thing is, I've found a lovely chicken friendly vet!
Thanks again!

I am so sorry , glad you took her so soon , would have been awful for you and her to let it go on and on. Youve done the right thing for her. Ros

Oh dear,I am really sorry to hear that  ,it's the down side of keeping any pets.At least she had a happy loving home with you.I'm sure you did the right thing for her.

I'm sorry to hear your news :(

Tumors in the ovaries / oviduct are actually quite common in older hens - but there's very little research on this because most research is for the commercial chooks that only need to make it to 18 months of age before they are on the scrap heap. I've not heard of many tumors in other areas.

I am sorry to hear you lost her, it's always sad losing a hen, whatever the reasons.
