Hello
I wonder if anyone can help me to find a lovely new home for our mallard duck Yoda who is now 11 weeks old. Still unsure whether male or female but possibly male. Yoda was abandoned sadly 3 times by mum and ended up unintentially imprinting us during being rescued from his/her shell became stuck to the side of the shell for a long time. The other 8 ducklings were successfully hatched and reunited with mum but Yoda who was the last to hatch was left. When trying to reunite with mum, Yoda ran back into the house and mum left with all the ducklings. As this was during lockdown we were unable to transport Yoda and had guidance from a wildlife rehabilitation centre on how to look after Yoda. However Yoda seems a bit of a different kind of duck who loves being in the house despite encouragement to go outside prefers to waddle back in. The wildlife centre was trying to find a home but have been unsuccessful. My worry is that we would love Yoda to stay with us if Yoda wished but is beginning to fly and am worried that he/she may fly to the local lake where unfortunately we have just found out in the Autumn shoots take place which includes ducks. I do not wish to clip wings at all and feel that Yoda needs to be with other ducks and a new loving home with people who love ducks and where he doesn't get eaten, where Yoda will have the option to sleep/wander into the kitchen and interact with his/her new humans . Yoda actually loves to sit next to you and is very friendly and quite the character, a little demanding to and lets you know it! and we really hope that we can find Yoda a new duck haven preferably with lake or pond free from danger to be part of a new family.

In my experience you're right about him flying off. Had a little batch of shetland x runner ducks and one grew up to be a mallard, must have been msomewhere in their ancestry. He flew off with a visiting bunch of young mallards one day which was quite a shock at the time. He sounds ace! Good luck finding him a home, I'm afraid I'd never get away with letting him indoors.

thank you for your post, he is ace and a real lovely character. hoping we find him a suitable home soon.

Hello
Please can anyone help me regarding our Mallard duck Yoda, (I posted an earlier appeal ) he is a lovely character but now part domesticated due to him being with us. Im worried now as he flew out of the garden and I found him on the busy road, I mentioned before that he was found during lockdown and abandoned 3 times by mum and unfortunately we couldn't get him at the time to a rehab centre because of lockdown. I also wouldn't like him to fly off to the nearby lake as sadly they shoot them in the Autumn season. Please can anyone hep us find a new home where he could be with other ducks and be housed on an evening. I would very much love if someone could take him even for a trial as we are very attached to him, and want him to be ok, we could pick him back up if he wasn't coping. we want what best for Yoda and would love to see him with other ducks and with an owner who will care for him, not eat him. We are in Yorkshire and happy to drive a good distance for a good home for him. Please help.

Oh you poor thing, how upsetting to find him like that. I am in Dorset and have over 100 rescue mallards but they live wild and don't get shut in at night. have you tried any of the facebook groups? I would do a home visit first though with anyone you find online.

Thank you for your advice but I'm not on Facebook. It was upsetting as he was calling for me and had got lost flying out of the garden. It was lucky that he didn't get run over as its a very busy road.

if he's really vulnerable you could clip his wings for this season, keep him and see what happens after he moults :)
