Are all cockerels noisy?
Are there some that are quieter than others?
I'd love to have a go at keeping both hens and a cockerel, but I'm an on an estate, and wary of my poor neighbours.

Thanks.

PS. That is houseing estate and not the 'family pile' kind of estate!!

With the limited experience I have of cockerals, I think for the most part there noisy!

My little Rambant crows anytime from daybreak until bedtime. Big Odin, my new buff orp cockeral was quiet for the first few days but I heard a bass tone crow early yesterday morning, and he had a crowing competition with another cockeral which I'd been told was a hen. So I've got three cockerals and they all make a noise. There's another three cockerals dotted around the village and they all crow.

Maybe someone on the forum knows if there's a quiet breed out there?

All cockerel's will crow, some are obviously a lot quieter.Out of my 3 pekin cockerels, one has a quiter crow than the other 2.My loudest I can hear in my house, even though he is 80 foot away, inside a closed shed. That is with my doors and windows closed,he also starts at 3.50 am,even in the winter.
Silkie cockerels have a reputation for being quiet, they also can't fly,the miniature(being the smallest)should have the least noisy crow.I've not kept silkie's,so do not know from personal experience.
Serama cockerels are also very quiet. Some crow(a high pitched squeek)some have a half crow and the remainder don't crow at all.I haven't yet had a Serama cockerel that doesn't crow, but mine I would describe as squeeks :D .
It is a tough one,I also live on an estate.Haven't had a complaint yet,but I'm hoping to take action to keep moise levels down for all my neighbours.

The answer is unfortunately yes, they are. Some more so than others but there are no hard and fast rules - the smaller cocks can be very shrill at times.

The noisiest I have is a miniature silkie-not only in decibels but he never stops, the most annoying is a pekin due to being so shrill ,the Speck.Sussex boy I never hear until he's let out.I think they would all be too noisy to keep with neighbours about I m afraid. Ros

I find the smaller the cock bird, the shriller the tone and the more it grates on your nerves. I can't bear a shrill high pitch crow such as a Pekins or something of that size. I My big Brahma boys all have loud booming crows which you would think would aggrevate people far more. But suprisingly a number of people near my chooks say they just love to hear the deep booming crow of the Brahma's [fortunetly]. :o

Funny you should say that.
I like the sound my hooligan pekin makes. He often does a victory crow after he's tackled someones legs!

I'm still getting used to the more bass tone of my orp cockeral but out of the two, I prefer the pekin. Maybe it's just because I'm used to him though.

with my 3 pekins, they all have different crows, one is def deeper and louder than the other 2.Himself,courtesy of Sue,sometimes think he's yelling to her to let her know what he's up to  .My Thuringian is bigger, but his crow is the most annoying.
