Quail. Pairs or trios.

Hi, i have recently hatched a healthy brood of chinese painted quail and was jus wondering if they should be kept in pairs or trios? i think i have 2 girls and 6 boys anyway but i want to know how many cocks to keep. Any info would be great. thanks.

personaly I would go with 1 cock and two hens. I have an adult pair and the hen tends to get pestered rather a lot. I have some chicks under heat at the moment and am hoping to end up with 2 or 3 hens per cock bird. you may be ok with pairs or you may end up with bald hens. at least if there are two hens then one will get some peace while the male is trying to impress the other one. hope this helps
