Hi all. Your opinions please.

I noticed yesterday that one of my ex-Bats had a very dark comb develop overnight. I watched and went about my business for a while. (After checking to see the vent was not messy or behaviour different etc) :|

After a couple of hours I had noticed the "Purple" it now seemed to be, To be mainly only at the tips of her comb and she seemed fine other than this phenomenon.

I went up this morning to find her to be a little less eager to the food/corn and her comb just a bit off colour, but definatley a purple hue .... :-)19 :(

She's eating and drinking, but something isn't right.... I may take a picture later... But any general information you can contribute about purple combs would be handy any way. I'll add it to my limited knowledge :-)17

Thanks

Normally purple combs come from heart failure or liver problems, feel her legs and feet and the comb as well - if they are colder it's the heart - the purple hue comes from lack of Oxygene - I lost my faithfull and much missed Magic Mullah who died chasing younge girls - he was an ancient fav.. his comb went purple then black and he was dead - and recently I lost another cockerel who did the same only he hung on for a couple of days - but his comb was purple - is she doing bright green poos - that's usually the sign of liver problems which also gives a puple comb.. is your bird old?? Ex batts sadly don't live for long - they were bred to lay - but not last for long - I hope I'm wrong and that she gets better though :-)17

Our Pekin-cross boy has a massive comb (as they do) & I've noticed that when the weather's chillier the very tips of his comb get a purple-ish tinge. I'm assuming it's because of the cold (a bit like we can go a bit blue when we get cold) as once the chill's out of the air the tips are all back to their normal red colour. Saying that though if the purple hue is there all the time I'd agree with Dorinda about it being heart or liver-related.

Thanks for your replies guys. Very much apreciated :-)17

She's still with us and seems happy enough. I took a pic yesterday, but the light was low and the comb just looks in shadow so I wont bother posting it. I'll monitor her and if she looks unhappy she'll go in the pot. (Though I wasn't intending to yet) ... More corn and treats for a while. I'm off up to see them late today. (B&B guests wanted a late breky.)
