ooooh! SO egg-hausted! Went away for the weekend just for one night and came back the next morning 5 eggs laid, the girls are tip top at putting themselves to bed! Very funny lifting the lid and seeing them all arranged, the first night Fanny was one side and the other 4 were the other side in a pile up! Think Fanny was 'laying' down the law! Have introduced them to mealworms (I think they now officially love me!) still giving poultry tonic in their water, I give them warm water at the start of these cold mornings, their combs are starting to go red apart from one who still looks pale so keeping an eye on her. Nugget is like a pea on legs, tiny body long legs but thinking about renaming her sonic as she moves like white lightening! I think it's to keep warm as she hardly has any feathers! Fanny (the light Sussex) is definitely now leader of the pack, there have been a few fights and bleeding combs but they have now all settled down. Hubby is going to build an extension to the nesting box, just got another 4 eggs this morning, going to have to start selling them at this rate or making cakes 0:-)

Looby I know the feeling I am egg-hausted! Work is now bonkers, got one hell of a week ahead but at least the chooks and the dogs give me time out! :D

wish my girls would lay more but they are moulting so badly at the mo. tonight one of my customers has told me to put my prices up as i was telling her about the cost of hay etc going up for the horses but i think £1.20 is fair enough for 6 eggs ,

as for my dogs well buddy has just cost me £373 vet bill today for dental treatment had to have 5 teeth taken out the poor old boy but thats my fault i left him to long this time and jack keeps riping his stop pads and my car may end up costing way way to much as thats going wrong :o :o :-)06 at the mo i dont even care for xmas you and me together having it mental at the mo

p.s your new girls may well go into moult soon so dont be to worried if they stop laying .

Happy eggs from Happy Hens in tesco were selling for £1.83 and I think that was for 6! I would like proof that they're hens are happy! I've been charging £1.50 for 6 and people paying it, I would if I knew they were happy in someone's back yard rather than line Tesco's pockets!

Just bought a 18 month old hen house in the local paper for £50 bargain! :D I'm expanding!

Have had a day making warm mash for the hens, with pellets, chopped up appels, old mushrooms that were over, and some curly kale, poured boiling water over it, mixed it all up and put it in the hen run, thought I was going to get trampled. They make me laugh so much!

Tomorrow will be applying pvc sheets to the top of the chicken run to keep out any snow and rain! All hens happy although Nugget the small ex battery one spending more time in the hen house that the others as she has hardly any feathers, she's like an oven ready bird on stilts, bless!

I don't know about nugget but I'm frozen! Brrrr!

sounds like you are having fun and another house ummmmmmmmmmm :-)05 :-)05 that only means one thing

Nope still got just seven! Will get more when we move next year! Basically bought the extra house for the nesting box and perch area, ours keep sleeping in the nesting box and we are getting through straw where they are pooing each night like there is no tomorrow so extending the perch box size so that they can all get on a perch, that way they are not sat in chicken poo and have clean derriere's! Also they will now have 4 nesting boxes rather than two! It's like Buckingham palace! Hubby putting on pvc roofing today to keep out the snow arriving tomorrow in the Cotswolds eeek! I hate the stuff causes chaos. Have been down early giving them all hot mash and making sure Nugget has extra helpings, she is tiny and thin, have bought knitted chicken jacket for her (I can hear all the men laughing now!) I know I am mad, but I think she has earnt it in eggs she has given us. Will update soon, need to get some work done now! :D
