To anyone that can help - We have a female steinbacher goose (now about 6 yrs old) who since November has developed a large cyst/swelling at the side of her beak.  Despite repeated trips to two veterinary practices and various remedies including anti-biotics (baytrial administered orally for 10 days) and homeopathic treatments (inc silica, arnica, thuja and others) the swelling has grown in size and we now fear for her well being (photo attached which was taken after the right hand side was drained off).

The cyst is predominantly fluid and has been drained off five times now – most recently the vet is drawing off 50ml of sticky fluid (which is now brown in colour photo attached - originally it was colourless). The cyst was originally just on one side of her face but in early Feb another cyst started to form on the other side of her beak (this has not been drained off ince forming). Both the veterinary practices I have taken her to suspect it is saliva and it is now refilling to its original size within 48 hours of being drained off.

A sample of the solution was taken in December and sent off for analysis – the results suggested no signs of infection or cancerous cells BUT the lab did say that to rule it out completely a scraping of the cyst wall would be required. The swelling does not impinge her airway and until recently has not caused her much distress but she is now getting depressed and i fear losing weight.

Has your vet considered sinusitis? My duck had a similar issue, but the swelling was not to this extent and it caused her eye closure. She had every antibiotic known to man and nasal flushes with baytril and draining. After about 6 months of extensive treatment we treated her for asper in the sinuses, it was such a small amount it barely showed on the cultures, but 2 weeks of flushing with F10 finally did the trick.
If you are in the UK I am sure my avian vet would be happy to consult with your vet, if you are in the UK get them to treat for asper in the sinuses.
